British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) chairman Adam Bruce has been appointed in the position to help the company’s plans through the Crown Estate’s Round Three Programme.
Mainstream’s chief executive, Dr Eddie O’Connor, said: “Adam has years of experience working with governments in markets where renewables are starting to play a key part in their energy portfolios.
“Adam will take his vast experience to countries where governments have yet to recognise the economic, social and environmental value of embracing renewable energy as a mainstream source of power generation.”
The appointment comes on the back of Mainstream announcing plans to build a 400MW wind farm in Chile in 2010.
The Crown Estate announced proposals for the third round of offshore wind farm leasing in June this year.
Mr Bruce was previously UK chief executive of wind power developer Airtricity, a company founded by Dr O’Connor in 1997.
