The policy is expected to be a contributing factor to Europe’s overall climate change goals by providing energy efficient freight and passenger transport.
Vice-President for Transport, Antonio Tajani, said: “We have to develop forward-looking responses to tomorrow’s needs for transport infrastructure in Europe.
“While building on 15 years of experience, we need to harness new ideas to redirect and streamline the policy approach and the commitment to ensure its full implementation.”
According to the EC, implementing new energy technologies forms a key part of the integration of the European transport network, with a view of boosting both economic and environmental efficiency.
The TEN-T policy was proposed in the early 90s for a European Union of 15 Member States and focused on targets for sustainable development.
