Drilling and Tapping pits teams of water engineers against each other in a race to connect a property to the mains water supply – all safely simulated at the NEC.
The competition tests skill as well as speed, with time penalties for less-than-perfect workmanship.
This year the event will see national champions from the UK, Netherlands and USA compete for the prestige of winning the World Water Cup.
UK champions Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water will meet their Dutch and American counterparts Amsterdam Water and Columbus Ohio.
There will also be national heats, a contest for women-only teams and a chance for the management to put forward teams to get their hands dirty.
The contest has over two decade of history behind it, with the first taking place back in 1989 to provide a national competition for distribution operatives working for water companies to show off their skills and receive the recognition they deserved for their service to the public.
Since then the competition has grown, with most water companies fielding a side. It is run by the IWO and full details, and rules, can be found on the dedicated drilling & tapping website.
