New South Wales will receive $1.45m, from the Government’s $12.9bn long term water fund, to improve efficiency was announced yesterday (12 August).

The funding will go towards a number of water saving initiatives across the state including converting farms from the traditional furrow irrigation – where water is pumped into fields for crops – to the more environmentally friendly centre pivot sprinkler system.

Australian minister for climate change and water, Penny Wong, said: “The project is an example of the Government working closely with local organisations and farmers to help them adjust to a future with less water.”
