The group, made up of DEC, Dredging International, Jan De Nul and Envisan, has bought the land making the scheme the largest ever, in term of land clean up, in the Flanders region.

The contaminated land, which was sold after the bankruptcy of chemical company which had owned it, has been used for making phosphoric and sulphuric acid.

Plans for cleaning the entire site will be finalised in the next two weeks and will involve the dredging of polluted waterways as well as cleaning up the contaminated land.
