CRC scheme not working say edie readers

A poll of edie.net's readers has shown the vast majority feel the Government's much-hyped Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is not working.

The poll, which is still open for votes and comments, sounds a worrying note for the scheme businesses have less than 50 days to sign up to.

It comes on top of Figures released by the Government earlier this week showed more than half of firms in the scheme’s criteria not signing up for the scheme.

Around 1200 of the UK’s biggest emitting firms have signed up for the scheme but around another 3000 have not.

This led to 54% of edie readers, as of 2.30pm August 12, saying they did not think the scheme ‘was on course’, while only 23% though it was.

The remainder, another 23%, said they did not know either way, which does not paint a rosy picture for the scheme, which businesses must be registered for by September 30.

Head of climate change and sustainable development at the Environment Agency, Tony Grayling, said: “Our dedicated CRC helpdesk is available to help businesses through the registrations process.”
