The launch of the Bushehr nuclear reactor was greeted with jubilation across the country.

An agreement between Russia and Iran appear to mean Russian workers will run the station and be responsible for dealing with the hazardous waste it will produce.

But, the announcement was met with concern by the Governments of the US, Britain and France.

The US State Department’s warned the country to go no further with its nuclear work, a spokesman said: “Iran does not need an indigenous enrichment capability if its intentions are purely peaceful.”

Foreign ministers for France and UK both backed the US by issuing warnings to Iran over further nuclear work.
