ADWEA, the largest state-run utility in the United Arab Emirates have chosen Hara to manage their sustainability and energy efficiency initiative.

The deal, announced at a conference at COP 16 by Hara CEO, Amit Chatterjee, is expected to save the Emirate of Abu Dhabi US$3 billion over 10 years in efficiency savings.

The Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) deployment will provide system-wide consumption monitoring as well as conservation and efficiency investment modelling for over 200,000 commercial and residential facilities.

Total annual energy savings are projected to top 12,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) by 2020. This would save almost ten million tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to taking 1.9 million cars off the road.

Hara EEM will serve as the core technology platform for optimizing Abu Dhabi’s energy and electricity use and will provide advanced analytical support for the implementation of the region’s smart grid and alternative energy investments.

Hara CEO and founder, Amit Chatterjee, said: “Hara is honoured to be selected as a key partner in Abu Dhabi’s ambitious program to lead the United Arab Emirates in innovation and sustainability.

“We are inspired by ADWEA’s bold leadership in the utility sector in addressing energy consumption and natural resource conservation and we are excited by the milestone this represents for the environmental and energy management space.

“As ADWEA’s partner, we’re even more proud of the role we get to play in helping them achieve sustainable outcomes for present and future generations.”

ADWEA supplies electricity and potable water to the population of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and serves more than 1.4 million people, representing more than 39% of the UAE’s total population.

ADWEA chairman, His Highness Sheikh Diab Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said: “The Emirate of Abu Dhabi plans to set new standards for water and electricity services in the region over the next five years through the application of innovative technologies.

“The Abu Dhabi economy is achieving rapid growth which makes it vital for us to make the best use of our natural resources.

“Our new environmental and energy management solution from Hara will facilitate and accelerate the implementation of alternative strategies for energy efficiency and natural resources using optimal sustainable methods, as well as reduce the Emirate’s carbon footprint and energy consumption for the benefit of present and future generations.”

Hara EEM works across 97 countries and clients include Aerojet, Akamai, City of Las Vegas, Coca-Cola, and Safeway.

It offers a cloud-based solution that enables organizations to strategically manage and optimize their energy and natural resource usage.

Hara works with leading companies and government organizations to establish each client’s environmental and energy record, identify and prioritize reduction projects, and implement best practices.
