Minister for the Environment John Gormley has approved the construction as part of the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012.

The Irish government implemented a three-year plan for improving Ireland’s water and wastewater infrastructure to comply with EU regulations.

Waterville needs improvement in its sewerage and water system to keep pace with development in the area.

Under this contract the existing water treatment works and treated water storage facilities will be upgraded and a new intake and pumping station will be constructed.

In addition, a new wastewater treatment plant will be provided to replace the existing town septic tank.

Kerry South representative, Jackie Healy Rae T.D. said:” This is a very important contract for the Waterville area and the Minister has assured me that will be asking Kerry County Council to proceed with construction at the earliest possible date.”
