Mitsubishi in million pound water deal

Yorkshire Water has signed a £6 million deal with Mitsubishi to purchase computer systems to control and operate its wastewater treatment facilities remotely.

The five year deal will see Mitsubishi Corporation provide the water utility with Programmable Logic Controllers.

This technology enables the remote operation of the various processes employed in the treatment of clean and dirty water.

The technology will also be introduced at the company’s sewage pumping stations.

Yorkshire Water’s Asset Delivery Unit head, Charlie Haysom, said: “We’re always searching for new technology that will enable us to do our job better and ultimately improve the service we offer our customers and this is certainly one development which will have a very positive impact.

Yorkshire Water supplies 1.24 billion litres of drinking water each day – equivalent to 49,600 Olympic sizes swimming pools full of water.

The company and treats more than 1.7 million tonnes of waste water daily and manages more than 40,000 miles of water and sewerage mains.
