Countrystyle gets green light for AD and MRF builds

Countrystyle Recycling has secured planning permission to build an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant and materials recovery facility (MRF) at a redundant quarry site near Ashford in Kent.

The AD plant will process 20,000 tonnes of food and green waste per year, while the MRF will handle 75,000 tonnes of mixed recyclables from both municipal and commercial supply streams.

Planning approval was given by Kent County Council after a lengthy process, just over three years.

The facilities, which are expected to be operational in Spring 2013, will create jobs in the area and provide renewable energy for the local grid.

The site is situated on brownfield land and will include three purpose-built buildings, to ensure that all waste processing is fully enclosed.

Mat Stewart, managing director of Countrystyle, said: “We are delighted that the approval has been granted. The application process has been lengthy and Countrystyle have worked hard with Kent County Council to address concerns regarding traffic, plant emissions, groundwater and ecology.

“Our application has been extremely thorough and has necessarily included a large number of technical assessments. Now that all parties are in agreement, we are looking forward to getting this exciting development underway. It represents a major milestone for Countrystyle Group.”
