During that period the business highlighted the advantages of the system in its public relations, despite it having only worked for less than a day.

The admission came at edie’s sister magazine Sustainable Business’ Energy in Buildings Round Table held under Chatham House Rules in London last week.

Delegates heard the system was turned on at first, but supplied only brownish dirty water to the building’s toilets.

At the event, which was sponsored by Siemens, the energy manager, explained he wanted to see the green credentials of the building for himself.

The energy manager then discovered, after the facilities team made him go on a course before being given access to the roof, that the system was turned off – rather than fixed – soon after being installed.

Full coverage of the event will be on the Sustainable Business website and in the magazine.
