Co-op calls for energy bills fairness as it enters market

The move, announced today (May 10), comes 24hours before The Energy and Climate Change Committee is due to hold two public evidence sessions on Ofgem’s Retail Market Review into the ‘big six’ energy firms..

Co-operative Energy has promised to tackle what it claims are ‘baffling and bewildering’ multi-tariff offerings.

According to the Co-operative Energy’s Nigel Mason the business will champion a fairer deal for customers through its ‘simple tariff and single unit price’.

Mr Mason has also promised to source electricity from low carbon generators, including renewables like wind and hydro.

With the aim for the carbon content of its electricity to be less than half the national average by this time next year.

Mr Mason said: “It’s time this industry had a radical shake up, customers have been bamboozled by complicated tariffs and confused by changing prices and unfair contracts, and it has to stop.

“We are determined to provide a fair and transparent service for Co-operative Energy customers and to let them share in the profits. We are campaigning for long-overdue reform in the energy industry.”
