Shadow energy minister, Meg Hillier, was disappointed by the Government’s plans for Electricity Market Reforms.

Ms Hillier also claimed financial demands of the Treasury meant any initiative put forward by DECC was ‘rolled over’ meaning it delivers nothing.

She said: “This Government has failed to deliver on a number of fronts since it took office … the energy market has been on hiatus.

“FITs destabilised the sector and sent shockwaves through the industry, including RWE’s consideration of pulling out of the UK.”

Ms Hillier also said with the Government’s Energy Bill on hold, she doubted whether any of the schemes announced today (July 12) would ever become legislation.

The labour MP also questioned the progress of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as we are still ‘waiting for sign off’ on project one.

She added: “There is a question mark over whether the minister will deliver as he has legislation stacked up like airplanes waiting to land.”
