Mr Huhne will address the Liberal Democrat’s party conference in Birmingham today (September 20) telling delegates energy compaines will have to explain tariffs better.

The minister has been outraged, but has appeared powerless, as one-by-one the ‘Big Six’ energy firms have raised price rises.

Under the measures the Lib Dem’s claims it will become ‘easier’ for customers ‘putting them in the driving’ and not ending the need to accept the tariffs of energy providers.

Mr Huhne will say the government thinks costs are ‘unacceptably’ high and is due to force companies to state on bills if there is a cheaper tariff available.

Yesterday at the same conference business secretary, Vince Cable, announced the Green Deal could generate an estimated 100,000 jobs in energy conservation.

He also stated ‘tens of billions’ of pounds of British savings in pension funds and insurance companies ready to invest in the energy sector.
