Justin Timberlake scoops green award

Hollywood actor and singer Justin Timberlake has been honoured for his green credentials in the Environment Association Media Awards (EAM).

Mr Timberlake received the Futures Award for his commitment to the environment on Saturday (October 15) at Warner Brothers, Los Angeles at the 21st EMA awards.

According to the EMA, the nominees are chosen for expressing their concern for the environment using the medium of entertainment, helping to increase public awareness of environment issues by using story lines, environmental practices or role modeling in their work or personal lives to encourage people to take action.

As a keen golfer with an interest in the environment, Mr Timberlake is the owner of an eco-friendly golf course Mirimichi, in Millington, Tennesse. He has also made an effort to reduce his carbon footprint while on tour.

In addition, the awards give special honours to people working in the entertainment industry that have proven to have “gone above and beyond to help the environment both professionally and personally”. Former honourees have included Pierce Brosnan, Alanis Morissette, Edward Norton, Red Hot Chili Peppers and John Travolta.

Catering at the awards is organic and sustainable and served using recycled paper plates and cups, while the majority of waste produced at the event is recycled.

As well, stars attending the ‘green carpet’ event are encouraged to travel using hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles – not a limo.
