The builders’ merchant, who also owns home improvement retailer Wickes, said the deal would strengthen its producer responsibility obligations.

“This agreement with EnvironCom allows us to exceed the requirements of the WEEE Directive and enables us to recycle and return electrical and electronic equipment in one easy step,” said group environment manager John Leader.

The deal builds on EnvironCom’s presence in the market. It already has a contract with Dixons Retail and is responsible for all of the group’s electrical and electronic recycling and reuse requirements in the UK.

The reprocessor says it is currently experiencing double-digit growth with sales up 30% year on year, largely driven by reuse sales. Input material at the company’s Grantham and London facilities had increased from 43,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes by the end of last year.
