Roadchef launches electric car charge points

As part of the project, a network of rapid charge points, capable of filling a depleted battery in 30 minutes or less will be installed across the country, with the first being switched on at Clacket Lane Services on the M25 last week.

The new chargers will be operated by electric vehicle infrastructure specialists Engenie, using technology and software provided by Schneider Electric and Critical Software. The electrical installation will be managed by Schneider Electric with all civil engineering being completed by specialists Bam Nuttall.

Transport minister Norman Baker said: “These motorway charging points give the assurance that electric vehicles can go the distance. As more and more rapid charge points become available, worries about range are looking increasingly out of date and are unfounded.”

Roadchef director of commercial and loss prevention Mike Heaton, added: “These rapid charging stations will enable electric vehicle owners all around the country to use their cars to drive the long distances without frequent multi-stops, helping to significantly reduce their carbon footprint while, in turn, achieving massive savings.”
