The scheme, backed by £920,000 of Welsh Government funding, was instigated by WRAP Cymru (Waste & Resources Action Programme in Wales).
In addition to £50,000 funding towards the capital cost of implementing and maintaining a waste prevention or sustainable waste management solution, businesses can benefit from up to £10,000 worth of advice and business support from a WRAP Cymru-appointed business consultant with specific industry experience.
According to WRAP, businesses typically waste £1,800 with every tonne of avoidable food waste they throw away.
Pubs, restaurants, hotels, quick-service restaurants and food service businesses in Wales could collaboratively save £5m a year by reducing the amount of waste they produce and recycling more.
WRAP Cymru business and markets manager Susan Jay said: “We’ve worked closely with the hospitality and food and drink industries to come up with a package that truly meets their needs.
“That’s why we’re not only offering businesses the chance to save money by learning how to reduce their waste, but up to £50,000 towards the cost of new equipment too.”
