The partnership – Skylark – will see renewable energy supplier Ecotricity and construction and development company Skanska implement the green energy projects during its first five years.

Three development sites of a combined generating capacity of approximately 100MW have already been identified for Skylark’s first round of investment, with a target of delivering new renewable energy capacity as early as 2018.

The partnership will see Ecotricity design the wind parks as well as gaining planning permission while Skanska will carry out the construction.

Ecotricity founder Dale Vince said: “This joint venture with Skanska will help Ecotricity… change the way energy is made in Britain so we can all live more sustainable lives.”

The news follows a report approved by the European Commission stating that generating electricity from onshore wind is cheaper than using gas, coal and nuclear.

Last week Ecotricity announced that it had completed the construction of a new £11m wind park in Devon with funding from Triodos Bank.
