Last year, edie published a series of sector-specific insight reports which explored the unique – and common – features of the UK’s biggest industries when it comes to sustainable business practices. The reports looked at the various sustainability drivers, challenges and opportunities within each sector, together providing a broad overview of the current state of sustainability across the country.

This year, we are looking to the future. Using edie’s Mission Possible campaign, which seeks to inspire and empower businesses to scale-up action across all areas of sustainable development, a new report series will explore how businesses are working, innovating and collaborating to achieve a sustainable future across each industry.

These areas will be delved into in a new series of downloadable, in-depth sector summary reports, which will be released throughout the year.

From retail, manufacturing and construction through to the public sector, food & drink and hospitality & leisure, the edie insight reports will provide an end-to-end overview of the future of sustainability across different sectors, with the support of industry surveys, business case studies and expert commentary.

The first sector insight report has been published this week, exploring how manufacturing organisations can take new approaches to drive sustainability.

Produced in partnership with Centrica Business Solutions, the new report incorporates exclusive findings from our own industry survey to provide an end-to-end overview of how manufacturers can achieve a sustainable future. Case studies from the likes of Nike, Jaguar Land Rover and Unilever are combined with exclusive commentary from manufacturing firms such as Interface and Unilever in the 17-page report.

The report concludes with a page dedicated to the Mission Possible Pledge Wall – which showcases an array of bold, tangible actions that have been made by manufacturers that have thrown their weight behind the Mission Possible campaign. More details on the new Pledge Wall will be announced in due course.

The manufacturing report opens with a foreword from Interface’s chief sustainability officer Erin Meezan, who describes sustainable business practice as the “biggest opportunity for manufacturers to secure their future”.

Meezan writes: “By lifting the conversation to create ambitious goals, being more active in collaboration and pioneering approaches to sustainability, manufacturers have the power to reverse climate change and lead industry to love the world.

“Throughout this report, you will be provided with examples of manufacturers that are being the change we want to see in the world and achieve Mission Possible. The challenge for you as a reader is to ask: what is truly possible in your own business?”
