Co-creating energy solutions: edie to take ‘Design Sprint’ format for next Club event

Energy Leaders Club members can choose from three topics to solve: Changing energy behaviours and driving engagement; Unlocking energy innovations; and achieving energy self-sufficiency

Taking place on Wednesday 24th April at The Studio in Birmingham, the Energy Leaders Club Design Sprint will see two teams – led by professional workshop facilitators who have backgrounds in energy and sustainability – partake in a full-day process to design solutions to some of the biggest problems facing energy managers on a daily basis.

The event is being held exclusively for members of edie’s Energy Leaders Club, which offers a programme of free, informal networking sessions, events and workshops for in-house energy managers and practitioners.

How it works…

A ‘design sprint’ unites a selection of individuals around a common issue. Commonly conducted over a five-day period, the group will solve critical questions through design-based thinking and the prototyping of new ideas. edie tapped into this process for the recent Sustainability Leaders Forum, which saw teams of sustainable business experts solve particular challenges around single-use plastics and adopting a business leadership stance on sustainability.

For the Energy Leaders Club, the process will be consolidated into a single day, with Club members being invited to pre-select one of three crowd-sourced challenges to solve on the day: Changing energy behaviours and driving engagement; Unlocking energy innovations; and achieving energy self-sufficiency.

Explaining the reasoning behind adopting the design sprint process for this event, edie’s content director Luke Nicholls said: “On an almost daily basis, we are seeing renewable power pledges being made, energy efficiency projects being rolled out, and low-carbon innovations being scaled-up to transform the energy system. This transformation demands a new types of conversation and fresh opportunities for forward-thinking energy specialists to support one another on the road to reduced emissions.

“That’s exactly why we launched the Energy Leaders Club last year. By utilising the Design Sprint process at our next Club event, we hope to spark new ideas and actions among energy managers, and to show them a new way of solving challenges which they could implement within their own teams.”
