SDG 13 is the first Goal to be published under the SDG Spotlight format

The SDG Spotlight reports map out exactly how the business community can collectively achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through the scope of individual goals. In the first report, sponsored by renewable energy company Ørsted, edie explores what impact business can have in achieving SDG 13 Climate Action

It is well-known that efforts to limit global warming to well below two degrees (2C), as envisioned by the Paris Agreement, require rapid and wholesale transformation to curb greenhouse gas emissions. But the fact remains that this transformation is not happening fast enough, and we have not yet reached the much-needed ‘climate turning point’.

The recent climate school strikes and Extinction Rebellion protests have thrust climate change firmly onto the agenda for media, politicians and businesses alike, and this SDG Spotlight report will equip readers with the tools, insight and advice needed to spur ambition towards SDG 13.

In recent years, the UN SDGs – particularly Goal 13: Climate Action – have provided a new foundation upon which businesses, public organisations and governments can drive positive change. So, with just 10 years remaining to achieve the Goals, how well are businesses progressing towards achieving them?

Is Goal 13 and its five sub-targets within reach? And, crucially, what steps should energy and sustainability professionals be taking now to ensure all of those targets are met?

This edie report sets out exactly how the business community can collectively achieve SDG 13 within the next 10 years. The report combines an array of real-life case studies, an expert viewpoint from Forum for the Future chief executive Sally Uren, key facts and stats, and looks at how Goal 13 aligns with other SDGs – providing readers with the insight, inspiration and motivation needed to achieve what is arguably the most critical Goal of them all.

SDG 13 is the first Goal to be published under the SDG Spotlight format, with edie set to focus on Goals relating to Clean Energy, Resource Efficiency and Collaboration over the coming months.
