edie launches 30 Under 30: Class of 2019 report, showcasing the sustainability leaders of the future

The report will prove a valuable resource for all within the sustainability and energy profession

Back in 2018, edie put out a call for ambitious young sustainability and energy professionals to join 30 Under 30 – a new, nomination-based community in which they could share ideas and further their careers. The response was phenomenal, with more than 100 youthful visionaries vying for a place in the inaugural ‘Class of 2019’.

After an initial round of judging with support from our industry partners Global Action Plan and the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS), 30 individuals representing organisations across the UK were selected and, since then, they have developed their skills and knowledge over through a string of bespoke content and events.

The most recent of these events saw members collaborate to develop a Playbook for Future Sustainability and Energy Leaders and a Manifesto for Sustainable Business in 2020.

This report includes more detail on these two resources while, more broadly, showcasing the successes and progress made by the inaugural members of the 30 Under 30 initiative.

Its publication comes one year after the 30 Under 30 Class of 2019 was announced and, therefore, as edie is judging applications for the second 30 Under 30 cohort – the Class of 2020. Successful applicants are due to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the report, edie’s content director Luke Nicholls said: “Against a backdrop of an escalating climate emergency and ever-changing global megatrends, the launch of our 30 Under 30 programme came at a critical point for the world of sustainable business.

“We must ramp up our efforts to turn the tide on the devastating impacts of carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to a circular economy – and these are the people that will be leading the charge.”

The edie team hopes that this report proves to be a valuable resource for all within the sustainability and energy profession, from students and interns, to senior professionals, and for those who interact with them regularly, including board-level leaders.
