Presented by edie’s senior reporter Sarah George and content editor Matt Mace, this episode of the Sustainable Business Covered Podcast outlines why the world’s food systems are contributing to climate change, biodiversity loss and water scarcity.

Then, through three exclusive interviews, guest speakers explore some of the potential solutions to the food system’s interconnected social and environmental challenges.

The first guest speaker for this episode is Bayer Crop Science’s head of global public affairs, science and sustainability Sara Boettiger, who outlines the priority process-oriented and technological innovations needed to improve environmental sustainability in the food system, as production scales up.

Then, Sarah dials the US for a talk with two professionals at agricultural machinery manufacturer AGCO, namely the company’s global director of sustainability Louisa Parker-Smith and global director of agronomy Darren Goebel. The duo highlight the importance of collaboration and disclosure in aligning food systems with national and international environmental ambitions.

Last but by no means least is a discussion with FAIRR’s executive director Maria Lettini, who explains how investor engagement is increasingly shaping the sustainable food conversation, as it is with the conversation about net-zero in sectors such as finance and fossil fuels.

To run alongside this podcast, FAIRR’s policy director Helena Wright has penned a blog outlining how protein diversification is necessary in the global transition to net-zero. You can read Wright’s thoughts by clicking here.
