Stars of the water industry set to shine at ceremony

Forget the current economic climate and the forthcoming General Election, there are more important matters to attend to ¨C entering the Water Industry Achievement Awards 2010. Yes, the awards are under way. It is time to get nominations rolling in for awards that not only reward excellence in all aspects of the industry but recognise innovation at its best.

Essentially, the awards are not just about meeting regulatory targets or fulfilling framework agreements. They are about going the extra mile to deliver value, whether it involves a service, product or technology. Organised by sister journals Water & Wastewater Treatment and WET News, the awards offer a wide variety of categories for water companies, contractors and suppliers to enter. One new category is FOG (Fats, Oil and Grease) Initiative of the Year. Two thirds

of sewer blockages that occur annually in the UK are caused by fats, oil and grease. With increasing flooding incidents demanding full capacity in sewers, and the property, health and environmental risks created by blockages, water companies are taking action to reduce the effects of FOG.

Other categories for WIAA 2010 are:

  • Partnership Initiative of the Year
  • People Initiative of the Year
  • Community Campaign of the Year
  • Most Innovative New Technology of the Year
  • Most Innovative Use of an Existing Technology
  • Customer Satisfaction Initiative of the Year
  • Carbon Reduction Initiative of the Year
  • Sustainable Drainage & Flood Management Initiative of the Year
  • Health & Safety Initiative of the Year
  • Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Water Industry

The WIAA are open to water companies, contractors and suppliers of all sizes.

The awards’ judging panels are only interested in the entries, not a company’s size – no matter how large or small. And one of the category winners will walk away with the Outstanding Innovation 2010 crown. Southern Water won the title this year.

Next year it could be your company. The Water Industry Achievement Awards 2010 ceremony will take place at a black tie dinner on May 20 at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham.
