Balfour boosted by £200M AMP5 work

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, has won support services work worth about £200M from the Highways Agency, Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water.

Work with the two water companies are for their respective AMP5 programmes.

Yorkshire Water has awarded Balfour Beatty a contract for the investigation, design and build of its water networks in the southern area of the utility’s remit. The contract, is for five years, and is worth £70M, with an option for a five-year extension.

The work with Anglian Water covers its water networks repair and maintenance with developer services contract. The three-year, £60M deal has an option for a two-year extension, and covers an area from the Humber Bridge to Dunstable, including Lincoln, Grimsby, Grantham, Peterborough, Northampton and Milton Keynes.

Balfour Beatty will work with Anglian Water’s network operational staff to improve the network. This is the first repair and maintenance contract that Anglian Water has awarded Balfour Beatty and will enable the two organisations to develop new ways of working which will help drive further efficiencies within the partnership.

The Highways Agency has awarded Balfour Beatty, in joint venture, a further one-year extension to its Area 2 Enhanced Managing Agent Contractor (EMAC) contract, covering the strategic motorway and trunk road network in the South West region.

The one-year extension is worth approximately £70M and extends the contract to June 2012.

Balfour Beatty’s chief executive, Ian Tyler, said: “Anglian Water, Yorkshire Water and the Highways Agency are long-term customers, and we are delighted to be deepening our relationship further with them on these contracts.”

These latest contract awards from Anglian Water and Yorkshire Water follow the announcement in January of the award of two AMP5 capital programme contracts by Anglian Water and United Utilities, worth in the region of £600M in total.
