Fume abatement galvanised

Working with local Environment Agency officers, Scaffolding manufacturer SGB Manufacturing required a solution for the efficient filtering of white clouds of fine fume generated when components are dipped during a hot dip galvanising process. MikroPul Ltd worked in partnership with SGB to develop a purpose-built low top removal Mikropulsaire dust collector and turnkey package that included fan, stack, duct, electrics and builder's works for the company's Coseley, West Midlands site. The system is rated at 20,000m3/hr to achieve the requested performance of the existing hot dip galvanising enclosure.

Less resistance

Mikropul installed the new filter within a designated area away from the production process with duct runs to connect to the existing system. The filter is situated inside the building and employs 386 3.8m-long bags fixed firmly in position by MikroPul’s clampless fixing method. Access doors at the top allow the withdrawal of bags and keep operator breathing zones out of the dirty side of the filter, thus minimising health and safety risks to personnel.

Replacing a high maintenance cost cartridge filter, the Mikropulsaire dust collector runs with significantly less resistance to air movement, leading to a significant improvement in fume capture at the galvanising bath enclosure, with almost no fume escape to the factory floor. MikroPul in fact guaranteed the Agency consent level of 15mg/Nm3 from the unit. The system now runs consistently with emissions below 0.3mg/Nm3.
