Residents reassured over water quality

Water supplied from Dunore Point had been under scrutiny from public health agency CCDC after an earlier analysis sample seemed to suggest it was contaminated.

However, on further inspection, the body agreed the “boil water” notices could be removed and Northern Ireland Water explained on its website that the supply is safe.

It thanked its customers for their patience and explained that a second and third test proved the initial assessment wrong.

“Customers should be reassured that the public health authorities and Northern Ireland Water treat the issue of public safety as our number one priority,” explained a spokesman, who added that the supply is and always was safe to drink.

The utilities body recently urged residents to avoid pouring fat, grease and oil down the sink over the Easter break as this often clogs sewage systems and can cost thousands to repair.
