In an effort to tackle the emissions of existing housing stock, the Scottish Executive will be providing grants for up to 96,000 homes.
The money will be funneled through the executive’s Home Insulation Scheme which will allow householders in certain areas to apply for financial support when looking to upgrade their insulation.
Areas to be covered by the scheme in its first year were chosen according to criteria including its levels of fuel poverty and emissions, the potential number of treatable houses and the potential for complementary funding.
Along with other initiatives, the scheme aims to contribute to meeting the Government’s challenging emissions reductions targets as well as increasing the take-up of domestic energy efficiency measures while helping to tackle fuel poverty.
The homes covered in the first year of the scheme will be:
