Scottish Oil Care campaign

Lord Sewel the Scottish Office Environment Minister has given the green light to a major public awareness campaign aimed at reducing the number of oil pollution incidents which occur throughout Scotland each year.

The Scottish Oil Care Campaign officially launched in Edinburgh, aims to alert and advise the public and business operators of the need to dispose of waste oil safely using oil ‘recycling banks’.

Over 20 per cent of all reported pollution incidents north of the border are caused by oil related spills or discharges. Launching the campaign Lord Sewel said: “The Oil Care Code provides solid advice which if followed by individuals and business, will bring benefits to the environment. I hope this initiative will encourage people to dispose of oil sensibly and to use the oil recycling banks whenever possible.”
