Show doors open for first day of edie Live – here’s what’s in store…

Representatives from DECC, National Grid, Forum for the Future and WRAP are all set to grace the stages of the NEC Birmingham today (17 May) as the edie Live 2016 exhibition officially opens - and there's still time to get your own free pass for the show!

After an amazing night which saw Heineken UK, National Trust and The Crown Estate among the big winners of edie’s 2016 Environment & Energy (E&E) Awards at the nearby National Motorcycle Museum, thousands upon thousands of energy managers, sustainability professionals and resource efficiency experts are now expected to visit the two-day edie Live show at the NEC, which will offer insight, inspiration and expertise through a host of new features.

More than 120 industry experts will be involved in 33 sessions across the two days, with three practical, CPD-accredited seminar theatres running alongside the free, strategic edie Leaders theatre, helping delegates understand the broader risks and opportunities for driving profit, innovation and brand value through sustainability leadership.

Show highlights

Seminar highlights for today include a session on ‘the practicalities of being a closed-loop business’ in the Resource Efficiency Theatre at 11.30am; some excellent case studies on ‘smashing targets’ in the Energy Efficiency Theatre at 12.30pm; and demand response strategies being explored on the Onsite Solutions Theatre at 4pm.

Meanwhile, on the Leaders stage, this morning will be focussed on the key themes of policy, regulation and drivers – with Aldersgate Group, Carillion and Policy Connect all set to feature; and the afternoon will be based on economics and profitability – with Interserve, Veolia and National Grid all set to feature.

Crowds are then expected to gather in the Innovation Zone area at 4pm, when 10 potentially ground-breaking and commercially viable green innovations – all aimed at tackling sustainability head on – bid for the chance to win a £6,000 support package through edie’s Innovation Zone competition. The Innovation Zone winner will be officially announced at around 4.30pm.

‘Industry imperatives’

Amanda Barnes, chief executive of edie Live organiser Faversham House, said: “edie Live will cater for anyone whose organisation has to deal with the strategic as well as the practical aspects of sustainable business and resource efficiency – be it energy management, water, waste, corporate and social responsibility, or low-carbon innovation.

“The show will cover three imperatives of the industry: bottom line, compliance and reputation. It’s about driving organisations or businesses to look for higher profits in a sustainable manner, complying with legislative demands and ensuring that their reputation is protected.”
