The waste contractor originally launched the service for customers in south London a year ago and has seen a significant growth in operations. It now serves over 800 customers in and around the capital including pub chains and government offices.

As well as offering a collection system using biobags contained in caddies, SITA’s staff have been educating businesses on the benefits of recycling food waste.

SITA’s chief operating officer in the UK, Graham Mayes, said: “We are on track to deliver on our original aim of establishing the service in most of the capital and then expand to other parts of the UK, including major cities in the south and central areas.
