SLR expands down under

Environmental firm SLR Consulting, has acquired Heggies Pty Limited, a leading Australian provider of environmental consulting services to clients in the infrastructure, natural resource and land development sectors.

Set up in 1978 by Managing Director Richard Heggie, the firm employs 130 people across eight Australian offices and one in Singapore. It is the leading independent acoustics and vibration consultancy in Australia and has significant expertise in contaminated site assessment and remediation.

The move represents SLR’s first acquisition in the southern hemisphere and is the company’s sixth in eighteen months. It closely follows the acquisition of UK ecology firm Andrew McCarthy Associates two weeks ago.

David Richards, Chief Executive of SLR, said: “This acquisition represents a further milestone in SLR’s approach of supplementing strong organic growth with the acquisition of high calibre companies to strengthen and extend our technical and geographic coverage.”

“It will significantly expand our international footprint and deliver an increasing range of services to clients in our core business sectors. In particular, the firms’ combined expertise in the infrastructure, natural resources, renewable energy and waste management sectors will provide a compelling offering to the growing Australian market.”

One of Heggies’s high-profile projects over recent years has been enhancements to Sydney Harbour Bridge. Heggies’s work on this Australian icon has included reducing noise and vibration as well as monitoring emissions and air quality during on-going bridge maintenance work.
