Stop that latte becoming litter says mayor
A campaign urging coffee drinkers to pledge to reuse their coffee cup to grow food was backed by Boris Johnson this morning.
The mayor of London signed up to the One Pot Pledge in the capital today (May 18), and urged take-away coffee drinkers to look at their daily cup in a whole new light as a ‘one pot allotment’.
The One Pot Pledge campaign, which is run by charity Garden Organic, aims to get people to grow something edible for the first time by re-using everyday objects for food growing.
Simple foods such as cress can be grown in an old coffee pot which could prevent some of the estimated 88,218 disposable cups used every 15 minutes in the UK ending up in landfill.
While in central London alone Mr Johnson said discarded drink related rubbish accounts for ‘a third of litter’.
Mr Johnson said: “I urge Londoners to sign up to the fantastically simple One Pot Pledge.”
