Sustainability Uncovered Podcast episode 1: Countdown to COP27: What next for policy, business and climate finance?
In the first episode of edie’s new and improved sustainability podcast, the team speak with climate experts, indigenous activists and green finance leaders about the upcoming crucial COP27 climate talks – including a bonus “Top of the COPs” quiz.
Sustainability Uncovered, hosted in partnership with Lloyds Bank, is the evolution of edie’s long-running Sustainable Business Covered podcast. Whether you’re a business leader, climate expert, environmental professional, youth activist, or just someone with a passion for all things sustainability and climate action – this podcast is for you.
For our opening episode of the series – recorded from edie’s shiny new studio in West Sussex – Luke, Matt and Sarah begin by reflecting on last year’s COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, before speaking with three experts about the COP27 summit which takes place in Sharm El Sheikh from 6-18 November.
First, Matt speaks with Gareth Redmond-King, international lead at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), about how the UK can lead by example in Egypt and what would make a successful climate summit.
Then, Sarah speaks with Jonas Persson, managing director of sustainability & ESG at Lloyds Bank, about the critical topic of climate finance at COP27 and what must happen at a policy and business level to unlock new streams of climate finance.
Sarah then speaks with indigenous climate activist and vlogger Michael McGarrell from his home in Guyana. Michael shares some eye-opening insights into the impacts of climate change already being felt across the global south, and what world leaders must do to accelerate change.
No episode of the edie podcast would be complete without some fun and games, and the episode closes out with a “Top of the COPs” quiz followed by a sustainable birthday surprise for Matt.
