Developed to reflect on progress (and lack thereof) across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda since the framework was formally adopted by 193 nations in September 2015, edie’s senior reporter Sarah George explores how SDG-related discussions, ambitions and actions have evolved during 2020.
First up, Sarah speaks to UN Global Compact Network’s executive director for the UK, Steve Kenzie. Steve provides insight into the merger between the Network and UK Stakeholders for Sustainable Development (UKSSD) and discusses whether members of Boris Johnson’s Cabinet are embedding the Global Goals in national recovery planning.
Our second interview is a panel discussion featuring the Consumer Goods Forum’s director of social sustainability and SSCI Didier Bergeret and sustainability director Ignacio Gavilan. They offer their thoughts on how businesses can avoid a race-to-the-bottom on environmental and social standards in the wake of Covid-19 and embed the SDGs in their approaches to supply chains and consumer engagement.
During this episode, Sarah makes reference to edie’s new report, entitled ‘Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: A Blueprint for Business Leadership‘. This report is hosted in association with UK Power Networks Services and is free to download. It can be found here.
