For the first episode of this podcast since December 2021, team edie is back with a bang and bringing listeners three exclusive interviews. Each interview takes a slightly different look at how law can be deployed to help accelerate the transition to net-zero and ensure climate commitments are science-based and likely to drive positive socio-economic outcomes.

This episode is jointly overseen by edie’s senior reporter Sarah George and content editor Matt Mace, with content director Luke Nicholls taking a much-needed break after delivering his recent two-part podcast special.

First up, Sarah dials London for a discussion with Friends of the Earth’s solicitor Katie de Kauwe, who gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse at its current legal challenges against the Government’s climate policy. The challenges were confirmed on 12 January and relate to the Net-Zero Strategy and Heat and Buildings Strategy – both of which were published in the run-up to COP26 last autumn.

The second guest for this episode is Lawyers for Net-Zero’s chief executive Adam Woodhall. A long-time friend of edie, Woodhall last year left his work in sustainability consulting to co-launch this initiative, which now unites more than 100 in-house legal counsel at corporates in the push for robust net-zero.

Last but by no means least is a discussion with the Chancery Lane Project’s executive director Ben Metz, who looks at how businesses can hold organisations across their value chains responsible for their environmental performance using contract clauses. This talk is particularly timely in light of new research from CDP showing how most firms are failing to drive climate action across supply chains.
