Teesside business park chooses external water supplier

Hartlepool Water has been authorised by Ian Byatt, director general of Water Services, to supply water to Wynard Park, near Wolviston in Teesside, in place of Northumbrian Water, in whose area the site is located.

Both companies’ licences have been changed to make Hartlepool Water the statutory water undertaker for the site. Cameron Hall Developments plans to build a business park on the site and Hartlepool Water plans to service it by laying a new pipe between the park and one of its own mains 4km away.

Customers on the park will be charged on the same tariff as Hartlepool Water’s existing customers. This is currently lower than Northumbrian Water’s tariff.

This is the fourth time that a company has chosen to use a different regulated water or sewerage supplier to the one allocated to it and is the first time that this has involved an unconnected greenfield site.
