The extension, is part of £675M upgrade programme by Thames Water in London’s five major sewage works so that more waste can be treated and overloading in rainfall is prevented.

It is hoped that the extension will also improve the quality of sewage treatment by Thames Water, which will enhance river water quality.

ITT WWW is a global provider of water handling and treatment solutions for
municipal and industrial customers in more than 140 countries.

As a result of its recently launched Sanitaire gold series diffuser, a high efficiency fine bubble diffuser for aeration applications, ITT WWW was awarded the contract at the Mogden works in Twickenham.

General Manager of the projects team at ITT WWW, Duncan Leathley, said: “Thames Water’s design and construction partner, Black and Veatch, was looking for ways to bring greater innovation to the project and deliver lower operational costs and long-term sustainability to Thames Water.

“The Sanitaire Gold Series offered an efficient and sustainable solution as it can demonstrate lower power consumption than other fine bubble diffused products.”

The upgrade will involve the installation and commissioning of a new process stream, including primary settlement tanks, secondary biological treatment and final settlement tanks.

In addition, the diffuser will be used alongside a high speed centrifugal air blower system, which will result in lower energy consumption at the Mogden works during the running of the aeration, activated sludge plant.
