The Conservation SunPipe

NEWS RELEASE: Following the tremendous success of the application of Monodraught;s SunPipe system, Monodraught have now joined forces with the Metal Window Company to produce Conservation SunPipe. This system is a faithful replica of a traditional cast iron rooflight, which incoporates the charm and authenticity of Victorian design, with the modern benefits of the latest materials and construction. This traditional appearance is so favoured by Planning Officers and Conservation Officers throughout the country. The unique design of the rooflight element means that there is no projection above roof level, which makes the system very discreet. The breakthrough achieved by the SunPipe addition is the transition from a rectangular rooflight to a circular SunPipe, with the mirror-furnished surface carrying sunlight down into the room below. The new Conservation Rooflight was formally launched at the South West Homebuilding & Renovating Show and a Patent has been applied for.

By capturing approximately three times more light than a standard 300mm diameter SunPipe, this concentrated light is carried down the circular SunPipe terminating in the standard SunPipe diffuser. The Patented Thermoliner from the Metal Window Company ensures the system is condense free and once inside the roof space, there is virtually no limit to where natural daylight can be carried to.

This new arrangement effectively creates a triple glazed SunPipe, since the sealed tube of air from the SunPipe diffuser at ceiling level still creates the unique ‘double-glazed arrangement’, with a column of still air acting as an insulator against heat transfer, but the rooflight itself incorporates a double glazed unit with two layers of 4mm toughened glass and a 12mm air gap and a genuine glazing bar to add authenticity.

Although designed to suit the 300mm and 450mm diameter SunPipes, there is virtually no limit to the size of Conservation SunPipe that can be produced or indeed, the length of SunPipe that can be provided.
