The Curve exists to tackle a market failure in corporate energy management. We estimate around half of commercially attractive energy projects, which we define as having a better return than an organisation's core business, are being missed. And we see the lack of credible information about the available options and outcomes as the major contributor to this market failure.
Could a User Generated Content (UGC) platform tackle this market failure? We believe it could, for the same reason that Airbnb, Uber and TripAdvisor have transformed activity levels in their respective markets. Platforms are transforming the way markets work, bringing new efficiencies and increasing levels of activity. The Curve is one the first projects to apply this model to business rather than consumer markets.
Our mission is to get companies to share the business case data for all of their energy projects on a global platform, where everyone can learn from collective experience. We know this is verging on crazy ambition, but the transformative benefits to individual decisionmakers and society as a whole drives us to give it our best shot. We believe the Curve has the potential to remove 20% of business carbon emissions
