Secretary of State Hilary Clinton told the conference that the world must pull together to tackle climate change.

“This is one of the most urgent global challenges of our time and it demands a global solution,” she said.

“Climate change threatens not only our environment but also our economy and our security. This is an undeniable and unforgiving fact.”

She said the US was looking for a ‘comprehensive and operational new agreement’ and was prepared to be involved in an $100bn annual global fund for nations ‘most vulnerable and least prepared’, providing other nations could agree to ‘standards of transparency that can provide credibility to the whole process’.
