Under the initiative, all waste and litter generated at c2c stations will be collected by SITA UK and taken away for reprocessing – in a typical month, this equates to around 25 tonnes of material.

The scheme was originally introduced as a pilot at London’s Fenchurch Street station. Following its success, it has gradually extended to include all of c2c’s 24 managed stations.

C2c’s managing director Julian Drury said: “We are determined to play our part in ensuring we take all necessary steps to provide an environmentally friendly service.

“We have made significant strides over the last year in introducing comprehensive recycling schemes at our stations.”
