In this week’s UK business news in short, Anglian Water Group is named as a top company environmentally, Yorkshire Water invests £4 million on York’s drinking water, and a new gas leak detection system becomes available.


Anglian Water Group has been named as one of the best environmental performers in the FTSE 350 Index, with an average score of 99%, placing the company fourth overall, and the number one company in England and Wales. According to Business in the Environment (BIE), the business-led organisation campaigning for corporate environmental responsibility, Anglian has a particularly successful programme of environmental awareness and a programme of monitoring environmental management through the company’s top 50 suppliers and contractors.

Portacel has launched a new compact gas-leakage detection system. The system is fully compliant with European EMC directive EN61326 and safety standard EN61010-1, with an operating temperature range of –10 to +45ºC. It can be used in most countries, and includes a programmable data-logging facility with capacity for up to 4000 records, equating to 10 weeks of data per channel based on a sampling rate of one sample per hour.

Yorkshire Water has announced that it is to invest a further £4 million into improving York’s drinking water and enhancing the security of the city’s water supplies. Work will begin on 8 April.
