US waste business reports huge Q1 profits

The organisation, based in Folsom, California, reported last week that profits were up by over 32% for the quarter, thanks in part to increasing value for recyclable items.

Waste Connections’ chief executive, Ron Mittelstaedt, said despite severe weather impacting business across some of the “plain States” in February and significant increases in fuel costs, the business had in fact exceeded expectations.

Mr Mittelstaedt said “record recycling commodity” had played a large part in the company’s success, alongside its drive to maintain tight cost controls.

The company serves more than two million residential, commercial and industrial customers across 29 States.
