VIDEO: WRAP releases on-site AD video guide

WRAP has today released a new video guide for the agricultural sector to provide practical advice on using anaerobic digestate as a fertiliser for crops. Scroll down for video.

WRAP research has shown that using digestate together with conventional fertilisers can increase yields compared with using conventional fertilisers alone, generating up to £300 more per hectare. Scroll down for full findings report.

The video, entitled ‘Using digestate as a renewable fertiliser’ includes a tour of an anaerobic digestion (AD) facility and offers guidance on the role digestate can play in nutrient management, in balance with standard fertilisers, to maximise crop yield.

The video also includes cost management information and well as practical tips about application techniques and timings.

WRAP head of organics programme Ian Wardle said, “The potential benefits of using anaerobic digestate as a renewable fertiliser are significant. WRAP field experiments found that crop yields were greater when grown using a combination of anaerobic digestate and fertiliser, than for crops grown using standard fertilisers alone. Combined with the fertiliser savings, the increased yields could deliver an additional £300 per hectare. This video is a great way to find out more about using digestate, and shows how easy it is to use.”

Financial support for farmers interested in on-site AD is available through the On Farm AD fund, administered by WRAP.
