Under the agreement, Casepak and SCA Recycling will process recyclables from the council’s existing co-mingled fortnightly collections from 11,000 households, together with materials from bring sites and recycling centres.

The waste will be sent to Casepak’s new materials recovery facility (MRF) currently under construction in Leicester. It is hoped the deal will improve upon Walsall’s current recycling rate of 47% and help achieve a diversion target of 50%.

The £21 million MRF is due for completion in September and will become fully operational towards the end of the year.
