Waste minimisation PBT chemical list available for comment

The US EPA has made available for comment a list of 53 persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) chemicals and chemical categories which may be found in hazardous wastes regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

The EPA requests comment on the RCRA Waste Minimization PBT Chemical List and the methodology used to develop the list from states, industry organizations, environmental groups, and individuals who commented on the EPA’s national RCRA waste minimization policy.

The list will be used to promote voluntary waste minimisation efforts which reduce the generation of PBT chemicals found in RCRA hazardous waste by at least half by the year 2005. The EPA will publish a final RCRA PBT List in 1999.
