Water company donates old uniforms to African charity
Sembcorp Bournemouth Water (SBW) has donated its old uniforms to African charity Mission Direct, following a company rebranding.
As part of the donation, clothing, including trousers, shorts, shirts, sweatshirts and hats, has been donated to Mission Direct for the City of Rest, a mental health hospital in Sierra Leone.
The donation follows the water company’s rebranding from Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water (BWHW) to SBW earlier this year, as its new SBW uniforms are black with the new logo in white, rather than navy blue with green writing.
The decision to donate to the Mission Direct charity was taken after SBW corporate and revenue services manager Richard Stanbrook visited Sierra Leone in 2008 to help with a project to improve the infrastructure. As a result, he has since maintained links with the charity.
Mr Stanbrook said: “You need to go to Sierra Leone to even begin to gain any real appreciation of the poverty in many regions and the absence of basic infrastructure which we take for granted in the UK.
“SBW is very happy to be able to send work clothing which it no longer needs and which will help some people in their everyday life.”
